When Do Military Members Get Paid?
Active-duty military pay is issued by the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) twice a month, on the 1st and the 15th. When either date falls on a weekend or federal holiday, DFAS issues payment on the preceding business day.
Your financial institution determines when funds post to your individual checking or savings account. Certain banks and credit unions make money available before the official DFAS issue date. Military retirees receive a single monthly payment on the first business day of each month.
Active-Duty Military Pay Dates and the Standard Calendar
If the 15th falls on a Saturday, DFAS issues pay on Friday the 14th. If the 1st falls on a holiday Monday, DFAS issues payment on the preceding Friday.
This schedule does not apply to drilling reservists or veterans receiving disability compensation. Reserve drill pay follows the unit and pay-processing timeline, so confirm timing with your unit finance office or myPay. Veterans receiving Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) disability compensation follow a separate monthly timetable managed by that agency.
Direct Deposit Timing and Early Military Pay Dates
Financial institutions determine when direct deposit funds become available in customer accounts, which can be earlier than the official DFAS issue date. Many service members search for Navy Federal military pay dates, NFCU military pay dates, and USAA military pay dates.
Posting policies vary widely across financial institutions and specific account categories. Service members must consult their financial institution to verify deposit release rules.
Military Pay Dates for Late 2026
Active-duty military pay dates for the final quarter of 2026 and early 2027 include several shifts caused by weekend dates and a federal holiday. The dates below are worked out from the DFAS rule, so you should confirm specific postings with your local finance office or your personal DFAS myPay account. Federal holidays also move payments to the preceding business day.

Because November 1, 2026 falls on a Sunday, DFAS releases that payment on Friday, October 30. This adjustment gives service members three paydays in October.
November then holds only one paycheck, issued on Friday, November 13 because November 15 is also a Sunday. You must stretch those funds across 18 days until the next paycheck lands on Tuesday, December 1.
A similar calendar shift occurs at year-end. January 1, 2027 is New Year's Day, a federal holiday falling on a Friday. DFAS releases the end-of-month December paycheck on Thursday, December 31, 2026. This creates a second month with three disbursements in late 2026.
